Chickens are natural roosters. Meaning they like to sleep up in trees, fence posts, etc... instead of on the ground out in the open. This video shows my 4 Rhode Island Red chickens roosting in the doorway of their coop. Before they had the coop, they would sleep on the ground huddled together under a rabbit hutch or other protection.
